Gees Bend and andalusian inspired sweaty patchwork.

I spend a few days at my parents place in Andalucia, Spain with my sister and nephew.

It is wonderful as always. Being with the family, eating wonderful food,

 picking figs, almonds, tomatoes and herbs from the trees and bushes, swimming in the little pool playing with the nephew,

 

  having a scrabble competition every evening while the moscito bite your feet.

 Cooking and chatting with my mom, and enjoying the sun which is shining every day.

But as some might guess already, I couldn´t help myself and bring some fabric. So this morning I searched for my mothers sewing machine, iron and board, dedusted everything (spanish dust is everywhere, if you want it or not) and here I am.

 Working on a Gees Bend inspired quilt.

 

  My plan is to quilt it  with some different patterns (I received the book of Angela Walters right before I left germany...). So this will be a totally improvised quilt, and I am sure I will love it.
And later when it will be finished, I will always think of the summer of 2012, when I sat on the terrace sweating like hell and working on this wonderful quilt...

To Shy to Fly?

This little guy is living on my balkony  for two days now. Yesterday morning I woke up from the hysterical tschilping of the mother . After I opened the door she dissapeared but came back quite soon with a huge worm in her mouth. It was amazing to see how she convinced the little one to eat it. It had a hard time swallowing but finally made it. I don´t know what is wrong with it, yesterday he looked like he wouldn´t make it. But maybe he is just to shy to fly? (like me sometimes...haha) but today it looks better even tried to fly a little bit. Allthough I cheered it softly it didn´t try again.It i s so lovely to watch the mother coming every half an hour bringing something to eat. I really hope the little one is learning to fly soon.

 I was working one my box quilt blocks like crazy. With the help of the wonderful bees of the Bee Europa, I have 24 blocks now. Later I will add some white sashing and I am sure it will look amazing, though totally different from everything I made so far.  And also I am thing to put the blocks on point. But can´t decide. What do you think?

Uuups and a Giveaway

Well, before my holiday I showed you the little "hexie case thing" which carried my fabrics and paper  for a paper peicing project. Here is what I managed to make on the way. Nearly nothing. Uuups!
There where to many interesting things going on. The landscape, the people and of course the walking.(Did I tell you about the bedbugs?) So rather scratching than stitching....
I am sure there will be enough time to make my ornament soon.

Also vor meinem Urlaub habe ich Euch ja noch mein kleines Hexie Täschchen gezeigt in dem die Stoffe und Papiere für ein handnähprojekt untergebracht waren. Hier seht Ihr was ich auf dem Weg geschafft habe. Fast nichts, Uuuups! Aber da waren so viele interessante Dinge zu erleben. Die Landschaften, die Menschen und natürlich das laufen selbst. ( hab ich auch von den bettwanzen erzählt?) also da war dann eher kratzen als sticheln angesagt.  Sich ist bald genug Zeit um das Ornament zu machen.

The Way

I know it is a little calm here on this little blog of mine. But that it is. The way decelerated me. I am so calm inside. Even the big city Berlin can´t make me hurry or angry. Before my trip it was like that. The party people under my window made me hysterical, the noise and the trouble of  a big city annoyed me extremely. But at the moment ( I hope that will last) I am so relaxed.

 Ich weiß schon, es ist ein bißchen ruhig hier geworden, aber so ist es eben. Der Jakobsweg hat mich entschleunigt. Ich bin sehr ruhig in mir drin. Sogar die große Stad Berlin kann mich nicht ausder Ruhe bringen. Das war noch ganz anders vor dem Weg.Die Partypeople unter meinem Fenster haben mich hysterisch werden lassen, der Lärm und der Trouble der großen Stadt hat mich tierisch genervt. Aber im Moment (ich hoffe das bleibt erst einmal so) bin ich so was von entspannt.

  The way was amazing. I am sad that I couldn´t go on going with all these amazing people I met. I think they are half way to Santjago de Compostela right now.
I had an interesting insight on my way: That I don´t have any insights, and that this is a good thing. I worked on my innerself for the last 15 years and now I recognized that it is a time not to search anymore.
Not to seek the happiness, because it is here. In moments, in your favorite song, in the smile of a little kid, in a friends embrace. My happiness is in so many things. A the sadness is also. And this is a thing I´ve learned in the past months.

 Der Weg war großartig. Ich bin schon traurig, daß daß ich nicht mit all den tollen Menschen die ich unterwegs detroffen habe weiter gehen konnte. Sie sind jetzt wohl schon auf halbem Wege nach Santjago de Compostela.
Ich hatte eine interessante Erkenntnis unterwegs: Nämlich daß ich keine großartige Einsicht habe, und das ist gut so. Ich habe so mit meinem innersten gearbeitet in den letzten 15 Jahren und endlich habe ich begriffen daß es nichts mehr zu suchen gibt. Ich muß nicht mehr nach dem Glücklichsein suchen, weil es nämlich hier ist. In kleinen Momenten, In Deinem liebsten Lied, Im läceln eines Kindes, in der Umarmung eines Freundes. Mein Glücklichsein ist in so vielen Dingen. Und die Traurigkeit auch. Und das ist etwas was ich in den letzten Monaten gelernt habe. 

Sadness and happiness they go together. They somehow belong together, and just because I am sad sometimes I don´t have a crappy life. After rain comes sun. I know that might sound logic for most of you, but for me it was a long way to understand and accept that. And now it is all about learning to relax and knowing that everything is alright.

 Glücklich- und Traurigsein das existiert zusammen. Sie gehören irgendwie zusammen, und nur weil ich manchmal traurig bin  habe ich nicht gleich ein Scheißleben. Nach dem Regen kommt die Sonne. Ich weiß das mag für die meisten von Euch ganz logisch klingen, aber für mich brauchte es einen langen Weg um es zu verstehen und zu akzeptieren. Und jetzt gehts drum zu entspannen und zu vertrauen daß alles gut ist.

Little gadgets

Since I hiked the Overland Track in 2008 I wanted to do something similar wonderful. And the camino (the way of St. James) in spain seemed to be an alternative. It also has this spiritual feel to it, whichs totally appeals to me. When a friend of mine told me she is going to go a part of the way in July I said "oh I always wanted to do that". She asked me, why I wouldn´t come with her. And I asked myself "why wouldn´t I"?
So I checked the flights to Bilbao, booked one and now I am in. I am going the camino! Yeah. Well it is just a part of it, this time. We go for 8 days. From Pamplona to Burgos. That is 200 km (urgh!!!). But I can´t tell you how much I am looking forward doing it. As I didn´t go for a holiday last year, I need that so much. A change! I need a change, a new perspective on things. Not just work. I need walking.Just this.

Well and because I can´t imagine not doing any sewing project I prepaired something for on the way. It is a little hexything I prepaired, stylishly packed into a little purse. Here you go.Isn´t this the cutest thing ever?

Ok, when I finally will have packed my backback and it is way over 10 kg (23 pound) I may have to think of leaving it at home. But maybe it will be the extra pant i leave. Who need pants... right? ;-)
